Specializations

As Europe’s largest university medical center Charité offers superior expertise and comprehensive know-how in all medical disciplines. In addition, our clinical research is instrumental in driving medical progress.

Beyond providing excellent clinical care Charité has gained a leading position worldwide in many specialized areas, inter alia:

Charité CyberKnife Centrum
The innovative CyberKnife technology is applied to the treatment of tumors. The robot recognizes movements triggered, for example by breathing, and takes these into account when irradiating. Thus radiation is performed with the greatest precision. The Charité CyberKnife Centrum is one of only very few in all Germany.
Charité Hyperthermia-Center
Regional hyperthermia is a heat-based cancer treatment capable of increasing the local effectiveness of standard treatment modalities such as chemotherapy, radiation therapy and chemoradiation.
Diagnostics
Charité’s “Labor Berlin” is Europe’s largest hospital laboratory. Annually about 20 million analyses are performed at 12 locations. The radiological department with its equipment as well as its diagnostic and therapeutic capacity is among the top facilities in Europe. All imaging modalities, including nuclear medicine procedures are available to patients in the CharitéCentrum 6.
Epithetics
Illness induced facial losses are reconstructed at the Berlin Center for Artificial Facial Parts (BZkG). Using the most modern materials individual prostheses are produced in a special laboratory. An experienced team supports patients during the entire process, including psychological support.
Kidney transplants
Kidney transplants have been performed at the Campus Benjamin Franklin since the 1970s. Due to the high number of about 65 kidney transplants annually, the Medical Department of Nephrology, Endocrinology and Transplant Medicine has a wealth of experience and unique know-how in this field.
Department of Radiotherapy
The team at the Department of Radiotherapy offers a comprehensive and excellent range of radiological interventions.
