Berlin Center for Artificial Facial Parts

Since 1990, specialists of different clinical disciplines have been treating patients who suffer from accident- or disease-related loss of facial parts. The Berlin Center for Artificial Facial Parts (Opens external link in new windowBZkG) is a division of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery / Clinical Navigation headed by Professor Dr. Bodo Hoffmeister. The care concept, which is based on respect and patient wellbeing, provides expert reconstructive surgery as well as expert psychological support for the patients and their families.

In the epithetics lab, the core of the facility, each epithesis is tailored to the needs of the individual patient. Today in epithetics silicone and other synthetic prosthesis material are being used. At the BZkG lab mostly silicone in different so-called Shore hardness grades is chosen which ensures that texture is as close as possible to that of the missing facial part. The team of experienced epithetics specialists can draw on state-of-the-art medical and technological options to provide individual care based on the most recent research results.
