Prof. Baumann

“We strive to provide our cardiovascular patients with state-of-the-art diagnostics and treatment. Our research has contributed to the development of innovative therapies, particularly with regard to infectious cardiovascular diseases and catheter-guided valve procedures.” (Prof. Dr. med. Gert Baumann, Head of Department)

At Campus Charité Mitte, Prof. Dr. Gert Baumann and his team apply state-of-the-art techniques and methods to diagnose and treat patients with cardiac and angiological diseases.

Cardiology covers inter alia the following areas:

  • Diagnosis and therapy of acquired diseases of the heart muscle, the valves and the vascular system
  • Improvement of the pump function in patients with cardiac insufficiency (immunoadsorption in dilated cardiomyopathy)
  • Neurostimulation to alleviate refractory angina pectoris
  • Improvement of the pump function with bi-ventricular stimulation in cardiac insufficiency

Approximately 2,500 patients present at our excellently equipped cardiac catheter lab each year; about 1,000 patients receive treatment.

Focus of the cardiac cath lab:

  • Diagnosis and therapy with coronary angiography (imaging of the coronary arteries)
  • Catheter interventions
  • Minimally invasive therapy of the aortic valve
  • Aortic valve replacement
  • Mitral valve repair
  • Closure of atrial septal defect with umbrella device
  • Interventional closure of atrial septal defect in patients with hypertension
  • Renal denervation

The focus “Angiology” encompasses diagnosis and therapy of general vascular diseases, for example veins, arteries or lymphatic vases, hypertension and diseases of the circulatory system.
