Department of Neurology

The team of the Department of Neurology headed by Professor Dr. Matthias Endres focuses its research on stroke issues and functional brain imaging. As far as diagnosis and therapy are concerned, the team treats all types of neurological diseases, inter alia: 

  • Neuroinfections such as neurotuberculosis, neurosyphilis, CNS toxoplasmosis or AIDS-related disorders of the nervous system
  • Multiple sclerosis, rheumatic CNS diseases, granulomatous diseases of the CNS, myasthenia gravis, Guillain-Barré syndrome, neurodegenerative diseases, muscle diseases and seizure disorders
  • The entire range of neuropsychology to treat cognitive disorders caused by acquired brain damage
  • Clinical neurophysiology with focus on the diagnosis of functional disorders of the central and peripheral nervous systems

 

The department has an excellently equipped neurosonography lab and other modern technologies to diagnose neurological disorders. In the Stroke Unit of the Department of Neurology more than 900 patients are treated each year, among them patients with ischemic stroke, intracerebral hemorrhage, subarchnoid hemorrhage or sinus venous thrombosis.
