The Department of General, Visceral, Vascular and Thoracic Surgery at Charité Campus Mitte headed by Professor Dr. Johann Pratschke is one of the oldest and most renowned surgical clinics in Germany. In cooperation with the other Charité departments it offers the complete range of conventional and minimally invasive surgical procedures.

The team specializes in minimally invasive surgical and organ-sparing procedures that aim to place a minimum of stress on the patient such as laparoscopy to remove the appendix, the gall bladder, part of or the entire colon. Bariatric and thoracic surgery also knows minimally invasive procedures. An exciting innovation in this area is the so-called daVinci robot which allows robot-assisted thymectomy.
