Department of Neurosurgery

The expertise offered by the team of the Department of Neurosurgery in the areas neurooncology, vascular neurosurgery and spinal neurosurgery is unmatched on the international level. Led by Professor Dr. Peter Vajkoczy the specialists cover the entire range of diseases of the peripheral and the central nervous system.

The focus is on the following areas:

Cerebrovascular diseases

Aneurysms of the brain-supplying vessels, arteriovenous malformations (AVM) and cerebral ischemia (bypass surgery)

Brain tumors

Tumors that arise from the brain tissue (gliomas, astrocytomas, etc.), brain metastases, glomus jugular tumors, acoustic neuroma (vestibular schwannoma), meningioma, hypophyseal adenomas and chordomas

Diseases of the spine

Spinal tumors, fractures of the spine, disc prolapses, degenerative changes in the spine

Diseases of the peripheral nervous system

Carpal tunnel syndromes, sulcus ulnaris syndrome, tarsal tunnel syndrome, tumors of the nerves and acute nerve injuries

Cerebrospinal fluid disorders

Hydrocephalus / normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH), aqueductal stenosis and Chiari malformations

Functional neurosurgery/pain therapy

Epilepsy surgery, implantation of electrodes in patients with Parkinson disease, trigeminal neuralgia, spinal cord stimulation (SCS), vagal nerve stimulators
