Department of Traumatology and Reconstructive Surgery

The Department of Traumatology and Reconstructive Surgery at Campus Benjamin Franklin headed by Professor Dr. Wolfgang Ertel focuses on the treatment of severely injured patients. The department which is a member of the regional trauma network Berlin-Brandenburg is a core facility of the Charité trauma center and point of care for polytrauma patients.

  • Treatment of spinal injuries with endoscopic surgery techniques and correction of spinal fracture malunion
  • Treatment of degenerative changes of the spine such as spinal stenosis, spondylolisthesis, and facet joint arthritis, vertebral disc degeneration or disc prolapse
  • Inflammation of the spine (spondylodiscitis) and tumors
  • Injuries of the pelvis and the acetabulum
  • Primary and secondary skeletal tumors
  • Arthroscopy of acute joint injuries of the extremities und degenerative changes
  • Joint replacements (partial or complete in hip, knee or shoulder)
  • Treatment of sports injuries with involvement of muscles, tendons and ligaments
  • Correction of accident-related or congenital leg length discrepancies and axial displacement
  • Treatment of all types of occupational injuries and their sequelae
