Department of Urology

The Department of Urology at Charité headed by Professor Dr. Kurt Miller is one of the largest urological centers in Europe. If offers modern urological therapies for men, women and children. In close cooperation with the patient, the physicians develop an individual treatment concept for each patient that encompasses surgical – open, minimally invasive (laparoscopic) – as well as conservative interventions.


  • Complete bladder removal in patients with bladder carcinoma and creation of a neobladder
  • Incontinence and prolapse surgery in female patients
  • Incontinence surgery in male patients
  • Kidney transplant, frequently as minimally invasive intervention (laparoscopy)
  • Laser therapy to treat benign prostate enlargements
  • Minimally invasive and kidney-sparing resection of renal tumors
  • Minimally invasive pyeloplasty
  • Nerve-sparing complete prostate surgery, either open or minimally invasive with the Da Vinci robot


All procedures comply with the most recent scientific standards – which are frequently a result of own research with regard to the development of innovative therapies. In the course of an intensive cooperation with specialists of different clinical disciplines in the context of the interdisciplinary prostate cancer center the department has gained extensive experience in the treatment of tumor patients. In addition to its clinical service portfolio, its research and different special outpatient programs Charité recently established a Department of Pediatric Urology which is headed by Professor Dr. Martin Westenfelder.
