Department of Pediatric Endocrinology, Diabetology, Gastroenterology, Intensive Medicine and Metabolic Disorders

In one of the most modern pediatric facilities in Europe the department of pediatric endocrinology and diabetology, under direction of Professor Dr. Dr. Annette Grüters-Kieslich, maintains highly specialized, state-of-the-art diagnostics and therapies for all disorders of the hormonal system (thyroid disorders, growth disorders, disorders in gender and puberty development, adrenal gland diseases, bone metabolism disorders, obesity) for diabetes in children and adolescents.

The therapeutic spectrum includes the diagnosis and treatment of:

  • Adrenogenital syndrome
  • Bone marrow transplantation
  • Bone metabolism disorders
  • Gender-differentiation disorders
  • Growth disorders
  • Hypothyroidism screening and AGS screening for newborns
  • Infection illnesses of the gastro-intestinal tract
  • Puberty disorders
  • Thyroid disorders

 

The physicians and nursing staff under direction of Professor Dr. Heiko Krude have specialized in treating illnesses of the gastro-intestinal tract in a manner suited for children. Close cooperation with the various departments of the Otto-Heubner-Centrum means that the young patients benefit not only from the comprehensive expertise in pediatric endocrinology and gastroenterology but also have access to the fields of pediatric anesthesiology, pediatric radiology and pediatric surgery.

The greatest possible safety for the patients and an optimal treatment concept during the entire treatment period is at the center of the team’s work. In order to fulfill this ambition, the department’s staff places high value on continuous and qualified further education and training.
